About IDEX Optical Technologies

IDEX Optical Technologies (OT) optical and mechatronic products have wide application in the semicon precision metrology, defense, industrial lasers and related markets. The additive manufacturing market is a new adjacency which offers significant growth potential for several OT optical products. Additionally, as a result of the rapidly growing A.M market, opportunities are emerging that offer OT new, expansive opportunities for organic and inorganic growth.

Position Summary:

A technically strong strategic marketing leader with excellent interpersonal skills is sought to join the Business Development organization to support the OT Leadership and BU GM’s, and the commercial sales teams. The applicant should possess a sound knowledge and understanding of optics and photonics with a strong commercial excellence background. The Director Strategic Marketing will work and partner with OT’s R&D, Manufacturing and Commercial Sales and Marketing teams to develop and execute high-growth product line strategies and support strategic planning for the OT Group. He/she will be the market knowledge resource/voice across the organization in the targeted markets described.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Formulate strategic market and product line strategies based on deep market insight; gather and analyze market data and provide opportunity assessment by end-application, technology/product, competitor and customer segmentation with a goal of identifying targets for profitable growth in optics.

  • Maintain and update the source code for LUSID™, OT’s play book for customer acquisition and consultative selling.

  • Create a highly focused marketing function that charts and owns plans around:

  • Website (eCommerce, content, messaging)

  • Social media (LinkedIn – promotion of IDEX OT, supports hiring plans)

  • Tradeshows

  • Drive strategy of Product, Price, Promotion, Place and People (5P) across IDEX OT sites in partnership with the BU GM’s (through the lens of the strategic market-based vision)

  • Partner with BU GM’s to incorporate LUSID™ into each business through partnership with the commercial functions at the BU’s.

  • Facilitate and drive strategic initiatives through inception phase in collaboration with Business/Product Line Leaders, targeting market share expansion via differentiated new product development (NPD) in the Additive manufacturing, Precision Metrology and Defense markets.

  • Identify and cultivate acquisition targets aligned with the Group’s strategic vision.

  • Participate in executing overall business strategy including, but not limited, to the yearly OT strategic plan process.

  • Works across OT to drive success through product and sales collaboration across internal businesses that have shared customer solutions or growth opportunities.

  • Responsible for developing a portfolio of consultative relationships with key opinion leaders to allow OT to take advantage of transformative advances in product/technology innovations and translate into highly- differentiated new product offerings

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Prior product management experience

  • Has implemented a large project or process change successfully

  • Understands financial budgeting and reporting

Education / Experience:

  • Applicant should have 5+ years of business leadership experience, preferably in a sales, marketing, or product development role.

  • Applicant should have a technical background in a scientific/engineering discipline at the Masters’ degree level or higher relevant to the position described and key responsibilities.

  • Person must be a dynamic leader capable of leading to achieve high level goals.

Reporting and Location:

This position may involve about 35-50% travel in order to support trade shows and customer visits within the United States and internationally.

This position can be based anywhere, but preferably at one of our locations in Albuquerque, NM, Boulder, CO or Rochester, NY and reports to the Vice President and General Manager Optical Technologies.

Additional Requirement:

This position may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident.

Compensation Information:

  • Base Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 annually

  • Bonus: This position is eligible for discretionary bonus
