POSITION TITLE : Business Development Manager

REPORTING TO: Sr. Sales Manager – North America

LOCATION: Midwest US (Remote)

Scope of Role: The Business Development Manager is responsible to grow incremental revenue in key strategic markets while developing an understanding of additional market needs and opportunities to support sustainable, profitable growth. The role will support the development of strategic growth business plans while having full accountability and responsibility for developing a new business opportunity funnel. This position will be focused on the development of business in strategic markets utilizing the product portfolio of the reciprocating business line (primarily rocking piston and systems). This position will work in concert with the Market Research Manager and Product Manager to develop a clear understanding of strategic markets; major players, how we win, and recommending potential customers to target. It is expected that the Business Development Manager identifies multiple levels of contact within these potential customers and drives the opportunity through the sales process to closure. Input and strong communication with the commercial team, engineering team and company leadership will be required.

The position requires up to 60% overnight travel (primarily US).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform research in cooperation with the Market Research Manager on strategic markets for the assigned product line(s) to identify prospective customers

  • Build an opportunity funnel based on the research performed utilizing CRM to track and manage activities

  • Work with management to develop a process of identifying, targeting, and connecting with prospective customers

  • Work cross-functionally with the commercial organization to inform and support efforts to drive growth initiatives

  • Drive accountability within the commercial organization with support from the Sales Manager to ensure that any lead passed along is followed up on in a timely manner

  • Work with engineering to define product requirements for new products needed to serve a strategic market

  • Manage strategic projects commercially where necessary

  • Articulate market intel to the Market Research Manager & Product Manager

  • Assist senior management with the annual strategic planning process

  • Other duties as assigned

Measures of Performance

  • Creation and maintenance of an opportunity funnel that will help the organization achieve its 3-year growth goal

  • Identification of growth markets where Gast’s products are well suited to support the application requirements

  • Supporting of the larger commercial organization as it relates to target markets and customers

  • Focus and drive key initiatives of the organization and the business line

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering or Technical field strongly preferred

  • At least five (5) years equivalent work experience with proven professional sales and business development experience

  • Experience utilizing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools is preferred

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and message to all levels in the organization

  • Proven track record of delivering sales results

  • Pneumatic industry experience preferred

  • Strong personal leadership and experience working in manufacturing environment

  • Project management experience

  • Market assessment and basic marketing process experiences

  • Assertive self-starter who has a passion for developing relationships with new customers

  • Ability to manage priorities as articulated by direct manager

  • Must have ability to build relationships with new prospects

  • Must have high degree of leadership and ability to influence cross-functionally

  • Must be self-motivated, show initiative, anticipate, and prevent issues by executing advanced problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrate ability to lead and work well in a team environment

  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to work well with customers and internal team members to lead positive change in a fast-paced work environment

  • Persons occupying this position will be expected to sign an Employee Inventions and Proprietary Information agreement
