IDEX Technical Sales Representative in Rochester, New York

The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for all inbound customer inquiries and outbound call management including product recommendations, generating a quotation, order forecasts, order entry, and overall customer management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to and qualify incoming customer inquiries

  • Identify customer target price

  • Understand customers’ needs and requirements

  • Prepare and submit quotes to customers

  • Follow up of all open quotes to secure new business

  • Obtain customer forecasts and secure purchase orders accordingly

  • Enter target customer sales activity in CRM

  • Serve as contact person for assigned target accounts (travel may be required once per quarter, consisting of only a few days each occurrence).

  • Review quote requests with customers to ensure specifications and tolerances are complete

  • Work to achieve department quarterly new order and sales goals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP System (strong excel knowledge is a plus)

  • Perform basic mathematical calculations

  • Ability to learn, read, interpret drawings

  • Ability to learn, read, interpret and understand inventory catalog descriptions, part numbers, technical specifications, computer reports, computerized spreadsheet formulas

  • Demonstrate and practice a detail-oriented approach to analyzing and problem-solving customer issues

  • Ability to maintain flexibility

  • Ability to work and collaborate within a multifunctional team environment

  • Strong prioritization and organization skills

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE

  • AAS in Laser Optics/Photonics, Bachelor’s in science field, Bachelors in business or math preferred

  • Experience in Sales and Customer Service

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of office equipment and PC equipment.

  • Typing, use of file cabinet, manipulating papers into files and/or envelopes, and grasping small objects. Requires the following physical activities: reaching, sifting, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

  • Involves sitting most of the time.

  • Perform basic clerical lifting of small quantities of paper

  • Bend as is necessary for sitting, using computers, and using the telephone

PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOB

Sedentary Work: The ability to lift up to ten pounds occasionally or up to five pounds frequently. Although a sedentary job is defined as one that involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
