Technical Sales Engineer–Semrock Brand Optical Filters

POSITION LOCATION:

West Henrietta, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:

A technically strong technical sales engineer with excellent personal interaction skills is sought to join IDEX Health and Science’s (IH&S) Product Management Team for supporting IH&S OEM Sales Team and customers as well as working directly with IH&S Optical Filters distributors. This role is based in Rochester, New York and will report to the Director of Product Management, Filters; the position may involve about 10% travel in order to support trade shows and customer visits within the United States.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineer routine OEM opportunities in support of the OEM Sales team and international distributors including a deep understanding of customer applications, development, and clarification of technical requirements and specifications, cost analysis

  • Qualify and engineer “semi-custom” product opportunities for end-user customers and distributors

  • Implement product pricing strategies in sales quotations to maximize contribution margin dollars

  • Support Won/Loss analysis of sales opportunities to inform pricing/prototyping/product development strategies

  • Provide routine technical support on Semrock-brand optical filter products, technology, and optical applications in the field of life science, medical device diagnostics and analytical instrumentation

  • Gather, organize and communicate market information obtained from technical support interactions to the Sales, Marketing and Product Development teams

  • Update current and develop new documents to maintain procedural compliance with industry standards

  • Support sales and marketing efforts as needed by contributing to tradeshows, content marketing, sales, and distributor training

  • Qualify and communicate customer quality complaints to ensure we continue to provide the highest quality products to our customers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

*Success in this position will be measured by timely and thorough technical pre-sales support of OEM and Distribution customers, as well as rapid, helpful responses to customer technical questions and requests*

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field; formal optics training preferred but not required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build and foster strong technical relationships with customers and external Sales partners

  • Analytical thinker with the ability to solve problems quickly and accurately to meet customer deadlines

  • Organized, detail-oriented; highly motivated self-starter with a strong drive for results mindset

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced “startup” environment with the ability to navigate across multiple internal cross-functional teams to deliver results to the customer to schedule

  • Ability to focus and prioritize workload to achieve the strategic goals of the business

  • Strong computer proficiency is a must with an emphasis on MS-Office applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the use of various optical detection methods

  • Understanding of fluorescence, Raman scattering, chemiluminescence, absorbance, and transmission), optical systems, light sources, and optical detectors

  • At least 1-2 years’ work experience in a manufacturing or corporate setting
